ESE was retained by EXXON as the prime consultant to provide seismic evaluation, structural analysis, and strengthening retrofit of existing pipe support structures at EXXON Benicia Refinery. The structures analyzed were multi-level steel pipe support structures seventy feet above grade, with a total length of 2,000 feet, and a total footprint area of 70,000 square feet.
The structures were built around 1970. ESE performed evaluation of the pipeways structues for gravity, seismic, and thermal loads. Dynamic analysis was done using a site specific response spectrum. Evaluation was based on the 1991 UBC and design criteria set up by ESE in consultation with EXXON.
